We may not realize it, but we are connected to the people, places and things around us, but often fail to build relationships with them.
As this pertains to people, this failure may come from a place of fear and misunderstanding, or simply because we don’t know where to start.
We are feeling the love from the Downtown Rotary Club this Valentine's Day! Thank you so much for your generous gift of $10,000 to help in renovating our building at 1421 Oxford Street!
Our vision is to create a safe connected environment that empowers growth through the wisdom of yoga and meditation. As a community, we seek to establish a firm connection with our mind, body and spirit in order to take with us a new awareness along our journey.
Did you know? Fort Wayne homeowners can request a free smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector from the Fort Wayne Fire Department — including models for the hearing impaired. Applicants requesting a detector must be the homeowner (not a landlord), and must agree that the the Fort Wayne Fire Department will install the detector at the time of the device delivery. You can click this link for complete information. Click this link for access to the online request form.
As we launch our 2022 membership drive, we would like to update you on what is happening concerning renovation of the building at 1421 Oxford Street.
We are in the process of working through funding to renovate the building, as well as turning the block west of the building into a green space for the neighborhood. But we need your input to proceed.
This building belongs to all of us living in the Oxford Community Association, and you have a voice. What would you like to see in this building that would be valuable to you as an owner? And, what would you like to see in the green space west of the building?
Some thoughts on how the building might be used include: special events, community gatherings, fundraising, meetings, and networking. It's where we can hold discussions about our concerns and wishes for our neighborhood. We can promote and advocate for community improvements, business support, and training and employment for our residents. It's a hub where many homeowner services take place, including homebuyer training; market value and property tax reviews; advocacy for improvements in our streets, lighting, and alleyways; and serving as a liaison for many other city and county services.
But your thoughts are what really matter. Please feel free to email us at oxfordcommassn@gmail.com, drop a letter into the mail slot at the building, or call 260-418-2316 with your ideas.
Keep in mind that everyone has something to contribute, and we would also like to hear about any gifts that you possess that can be given back to your community. This can start by simply joining or renewing your membership, which you can easily do through our website. Thank you so much!

We have noticed that some residents have let a large amount of trash accumulate in the alleys behind their properties and/or in their yards . This is unsightly, as well as unhealthy for the neighborhood, and it detracts from the environment we strive to maintain for all who live within the Oxford Community.
If you receive a letter regarding trash or non-working vehicles on your property or alley right-of-way, you will be requested to take care of the issue within 30 days, in order to avoid having the matter turned over to the Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement Department.
Under certain circumstances, you may be able to get help through NeighborLink Fort Wayne at www.nlfw.org or by calling 260-209-0074. Also, if you need to dispose of large items, you can contact Red River Waste Solutions at www.rrws.com or by calling 260-748-0883.
If you need further assistance in taking care of this issue, please contact us at oxfordcommassn@gmail.com, or call 260-418-2316. We would be glad to find ways to help out.
The signage that is peppering our neighborhood, while annoying, may also pose a threat to area property values because of the perception that these homes are in bad condition, when they are not. There is an influx of outside investors converging on our homes and trying to buy them under their real market value. These investors then flip the houses and sell them at a 25-50% greater price.
Why is this a problem? These escalated prices make purchasing homes out of reach for low- to moderate-income buyers who want to remain living in the area. The investor activity is also causing higher rental prices, taxes, and insurance costs to affect other homeowners who are not selling, and who have done nothing to cause the increase
in property ownership expenses.
Mailings like these, too, have inundated residents in our neighborhood. The language, frankly, is insulting:
"We will buy your headache."
"Renters in default."
"Urgent Notice" (as if official)
"You don't have to repair it or clean it up,"
"Turn your burden into cash."
This mail is being sent to people who have very nice homes that are well taken care of; where there is no default; where renters are good tenants; where there are no "pains, frustrations, or burdens" going on, except for what these mailings and signage are causing. Please be aware that we are working to try and reduce this issue.
